OLD PAGE Black Black is a very common color with Nigerian Dwarfs. It is one of the only ND colors where both dam and sire have to either carry or be black to produce it. This means that even two buckskins can produce black as long as they carry it. An example is that Scarlet (buckskin/swiss combo) was bred to a swiss buck, and Pie (black with excessive white - see photo #3) was a result of that pairing. Obviously both carried black. Although black is a 'plain' color, it is still quite lovely! Just ask Capella - she thinks so!

Buckskin Buckskin is another very common ND color. Buckskins have a tan body with a black cape and stripes on the face (similar to a Swiss but tan instead of white). The legs have black or brown stripes, and often the belly will be tan as well. Buckskins can range from light to dark (usually called mahogany - see photo #2) and they can come in a variety of colors, such as chocolate and red.

Silver Silver is a lovely, unique color and originates from the Flat Rock line, based out of Texas. Silvers are a dominant color and breeding a silver to a normal color will give you 50/50 odds of silver offspring. Silvers can range from a light pale tone to a very dark shade, similar to a black roan (which is more unusual). Platinums are also a form of silver, but basically “gold over silver” (gold/silver combo). Some can look entirely white/cream which can make it difficult to determine if they are indeed a platinum until they produce one. An interesting fact about the silvers is that they have black skin, making them less prone to skin cancer.
Silver is basically black with heavy roaning, but it is its own color. Often, dark silvers and roans look very similar, so it is easy to mistake one for the other; but if one parent isn’t silver, you have a roan. Since silver is a recessive color, one parent has to be silver to produce it. Silver can come in different modifiers, such as silver swiss, silver buckskin, silver Chaimosee, and so forth. Silvers can have moonspots but usually they are not visible.
More examples of the silver color coming soon.
